Amen! The limits of robots go beyond the selection of content and headlines to fact-checking, polishing (spell checking, grammar and clarity) and beyond to the all-critical addition of context (telling the reader why the story is important). Go beyond that to providing insight or delight to the reader (the highest level in the content "value chain") and the less value an algorithm can provide.

Your point about the limits of "audience driven" content is also very well taken. What is often most interesting is what everyone else ISN'T talking about and hasn't seen yet. The classic example would be a story predicting the fall of the housing market several months before it happened. How would you have "crowd-sourced" that?

Am currently finishing up an ebook on where it makes sense to still use professional editors vs. the crowd in B2B content creation -- happy to furnish a review copy for feedback from interested participants.
